Whew. If you’re reading this, it’s most likely a lull for you during the normally-stressful time around the holidays. We thank you for choosing to find your escape in the pages of this magazine. We’ve filled this month’s issue with some of the best holiday traditions in the Lake Norman area, and we hope you’ll find something to enjoy.

This marks my first month as editor at Lake Norman Magazine, and I’m thrilled to be joining this staff as we wrap up our 25th anniversary year. Since 1983, we’ve been bringing you the best stories this region has to offer, and we look forward the next 25 years of being an essential part of this community. Though you’ve probably heard about changes in the local media scene, our commitment here has remained constant.

I have 16 years of journalism experience, including 12 at The Charlotte Observer and three at the helm of the annual Living Here magazine. And I have deep ties here in Lake Norman – my grandmother, Giddy Dyer, grew up in Davidson, where her father was an English professor at Davidson College. At age 88, she passed away earlier this year at her home at The Pines in Davidson, where she had served on the board that developed that retirement facility. I miss her deeply, but I love seeing reminders of her all around this community.

I love this community too, from the beauty of the lake and the quaintness of the historic nearby towns to the growth and excitement of new people and businesses. I have lived in both Denver and Huntersville (above a gift shop for a time in Birkdale Village, which was extremely hazardous to my checking account), so I have witnessed firsthand the sense of pride our residents have in their hometowns.
